A Labor
of Love

History

Our wines are crafted by two generations of the Baccheschi Berti family: Carlo and his eldest son, Brando.

Inspired by the renowned wines of Bordeaux, Carlo pursued his dream of creating a Tuscan wine that reflects the same exceptional quality and character of this celebrated terroir.

Vineyards

Surrounding the estate and framed by the striking macchia mediterranea and ancient olive groves, lie our vineyards.

Across seven hectares of high-density, organically cultivated vines, we produce five exquisite wines—four reds and one Rosato. In 2025, our “Castello di Vicarello” 2019 vintage was honored with the prestigious “5 Grappoli” award from Bibenda, the esteemed guide of the Italian Sommelier Foundation, recognizing Italy’s finest wines.

The unique characteristics of our wines begin with the fertile soil, influenced by the nearby sea, and the carefully chosen cultivars. But what truly sets them apart is the unwavering passion and dedication that Carlo Baccheschi Berti pours into every aspect of winemaking.

Our high-density planting, with 11,000 to 14,000 plants per hectare, results in wines of remarkable richness, complexity, and intensity—crafted to be enjoyed now or to evolve beautifully over time. The vineyards combine classic cordon training with ancient “alberello” (head spur) training, embodying a harmonious balance of tradition and innovation.

Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot were chosen to honor Tuscany’s classic wine heritage, while Sangiovese, blended with Merlot, offers a fresh interpretation of Maremma winemaking. Natural sulfur and copper are the only treatments used in our organic vineyards, ensuring the utmost respect for the land.

Each bottle reflects the intertwined story of the vines, the land, the climate, and the unwavering commitment that defines Castello di Vicarello wines.

The Land

Poggi del Sasso is a place where tranquility blends with the untamed beauty of nature.

To the west, the Tyrrhenian Sea brings refreshing late-spring and summer breezes, while Monte Amiata to the southeast shields our vineyards from strong winds. Below the estate, dense forests and the flowing Ombrone River create ideal temperature variations, fostering optimal growing conditions.

Nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean Basin, this land is defined by ancient soils rich in clay minerals and marine deposits. Abundant in calcium and vital micronutrients, it nurtures lush vegetation and gives rise to extraordinary wines.
