In the 1980s, Carlo and Aurora Baccheschi Berti were dividing their time between Bali and Milan, immersed in the worlds of fashion, textiles, and furniture design.
When they discovered the ruins of Castello di Vicarello—once a fortress of the Republic of Siena—they relocated with their three young sons to Tuscany’s Maremma region to embark on a new chapter of their lives. Driven by a passion for craftsmanship and an extraordinary attention to detail, they dedicated over 12 years to the meticulous restoration of the castle, ensuring every element reflected its rich history and timeless elegance.
In 2003, they opened Castello di Vicarello as a boutique hotel, inviting guests to experience the harmony of heritage and refined design. Restoration efforts continue to this day, preserving the castle’s legacy and enhancing its beauty for future generations.
Carlo
A devoted Florentine with an impeccable eye for style and hospitality, Signor Carlo brings his passion for design to every corner of the estate. During the renovation of the property, he oversaw all the masonry work and finishes, ensuring perfection in every detail. His inspiration and love for wine made it possible to produce a distinctive product from our vineyards. To this day, Carlo helps the new generation craft the future of Vicarello.
Aurora
An elegant tastemaker from Milan, Signora Aurora is deeply passionate about the estate’s cuisine and upholds the kitchen to the highest Tuscan standards. Together with Carlo, she is responsible for creating the unique style of Vicarello, a balanced blend of timeless design, unique materials, and enduring elegance. Even now, Aurora oversees new suite projects and designs, ensuring that the same attention to detail is applied to these new endeavors as it was in the past.

The eldest son of Carlo and Aurora, Brando is the wine expert who oversees the wine production. Growing up in the countryside, he nurtured a passion deeply rooted in the family heritage, learning the best practices of viticulture and winemaking from a young age. Brando invites guests to explore the fruits of the family’s labor, taking pride in meticulously caring for the estate’s vineyards and handcrafting exquisite wines that reflect his commitment to quality and tradition.
